The initial stages of the project proved somewhat difficult, due to the fairly vague nature of the project description. None of the parties involved had a clear picture of precisely where they were going. Following the analysis phase, the various parties all started thinking along the same lines. Initially, Idéon made a start on developing a new type of electrode, because in terms of use the electrodes generated the majority of problems and because the development of the housings could be carried out synchronously with the development of the electronics (which was not yet particularly advanced, at this stage). Existing electrodes have to be stuck on like a sticking plaster and subsequently discarded. The electrodes had to be stuck to the trapezium muscle (between the acromion and vertebra C7), but this is not a location which the patient can easily reach. On the basis of this problem, the dry 'suction' electrode was developed, integrated in the system of straps. This was made possible by cooperation between various disciplines. RRD carried out investigations into the necessary degree of precision of positioning, TMSI developed amplifiers so good that they could even produce good measurements in dry conditions, and Idéon contributed ideas about how the electrodes could be applied by the individual. Right from the start, cooperation between the various disciplines was excellent.
