Vahim bir tablo çizen ekonomistler, sorununun çözülmesi için dua edip beklemenin en rasyonel çözüm olacağını söylüyor.

As the Obama administration experiences difficult times following the recent government shutdown crisis in USA, it is indicated that FED, Federal Reserve System, who gave “the go-ahead to bond buying program” last month, is likely to maintain this attitude. Economists state that October 17 is the critical date for the country, and in the event of failure to get an authorization for additional borrowing on that date in the U.S Congress, a crisis similar to that of in Turkey where the Constitutional Code Book was thrown in 2001, is to be expected. According to the economists, the most rational solution is to pray and wait until things come to a resolution.

It appeared that political parties failed in identifying female candidates prior to every local election. The fact that there are only 22 female mayors, linked to political parties based on the last local election results, only sums up the desperate situation. The experts, who point out that “a participative democracy” is only possible when women have equal presence in every level of political parties, indicate women should become real candidates not some stalking horses on lists.

İzmir Ekonomi Üniversitesi Ekonomi Bölümü Öğretim Üyesi Yrd. Doç. Dr. İdil Göksel de, Türkiye’de kadının işgücüne katılımının çok vahim bir tablosu olduğunu belirtti. Yrd. Doç. Dr. Göksel, AB üyeleri arasında kadınların istihdama katılımı açısından en düşük rakamların yüzde 38 ile Malta ve yüzde 39 ile İtalya’ya ait olduğunu bildirerek, “Aday ve potansiyel aday ülkeler arasında Makedonya yüzde 43 ve Bosna Hersek de yüzde 34 ile kadınların istihdama en az katıldıkları ülkeler arasındadır. Türkiye tüm bu ülkeler arasında yüzde 29’luk kadın istihdam oranı ile AB üye ve potansiyel üye ülkelerinin bir hayli altında yer almaktadır” diye konuştu.

Asst. Prof. Dr. İdil Göksel, Lecturer at IUE Department of Economics, indicated that women’s participation in work force was a desperate situation. Göksel stated that Malta with 38% and Italy with 39% were the two European countries in terms of the lowest women employment rates. “Among the candidate and potential candidate countries, Macedonia with 43% and Bosnia Herzegovina with 34% are the two countries with lowest women employment rates. Turkey, with a 29% rate of women employment, is way below the EU member and potential member countries,” pointed out Göksel.

Son milletvekili seçimlerinde kadınların mecliste Cumhuriyet tarihinin en yoğun temsil oranına sahip olduğunu belirten Bağdadi, “Şu anda TBMM’de kadınların temsil oranı yüzde 14’tür. Ancak yerel yönetimlere baktığımızda durum çok kötüdür, hatta kadının varlığı yerel düzeyde yoktur. 2009 yerel seçimlerinde seçilen belediye başkanlarından sadece yüzde 0.9’u kadındır. Belediye meclis üyelerinin yüzde 4.2’si ve il genel meclis üyelerinin yüzde 3.3’ü kadındır. Yerel yönetimlerde tüm bu veriler toplandığında kadının temsili yüzde 1.2’dir” diyerek, vahim tabloyu ortaya koydu.

Itır Bağdadi, Director of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Gender and Women Studies Research and Application Centre (EKOKAM), stated that even though there was an increase in female representation in general elections, the female candidates were thrown out of focus in local elections. Bağdadi indicated women achieved the highest representation rate in the history of the republic in the last parliamentary elections. She said, “Women hold a representation rate of 14% at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey currently. However, the situation is dire in local administrations, even to a point of having no presence at local level. Only 0.9 % of mayors elected at 2009 local elections were females. Women make up 4.2% of municipal assembly and 3.3% of the provincial general assembly, when you add these figures you can see that women representation is only 1.2%.”
