January makes us travel through time. As we have already told you on the blog in our retrospective , it was this month that the first three editions of Rock in Rio happened (1985/1991/2001). Talking about how it all started, do you know who was the first artist to take the festival´s stage? Ney Matogrosso. Why was he there? There are many reasons for it. The truth is that Ney, who released a new album late last year, is a rocker even when he isn´t. After all, boldness and courage, which features he have plenty of, are rocker attitudes par excellence. And more: the guy is in the DNA of the history of the national rock and roll. He was part of the composition of Secos e Molhados in early 70s. The trio, which could even be seen as a representative – with strong identity – of glam rock in Brazil, was one of the greatest phenomena of music in the country, and recorded at least one essential album in the collection of anyone who enjoys the rock here. The eponymous album was released in 1973 and featured, among others, the tracks “Sangue Latino” and “Rosa de Hiroshima”, hits that have stood the test of time. The important band, which left aesthetics and musical influence as inheritance, is also the subject of a legend of the musical universe, which ensures that the look of Kiss band was inspired in them. That´s no small thing. When, in 2013, the singer attended the Tribute to Cazuza – the show that opened last year's festival – he took our minds directly to twenty nine years ago. In the historic Rock in Rio 1985, Ney sang "Pro Dia Nascer Feliz", composition of Cazuza and Frejat. Last year, he sang it again in company of other artists. Not for nothing this song, present on the second album of Barão Vermelho, was a hit when sung by him. Ney has many connections with the sound of the guitars. "Atento aos Sinais", his new album, also connects the singer to rock. The album, which resulted from the tour of the same name and traveled all over the country in 2013, gives priority to new and little-known composers. Sonority invests in the genre with the artist´s strong feature. Our great singer is really a rocker guy!
