Tenuta Cucco si trova in Serralunga d’Alba, in Piemonte ai piedi del famoso castello del 1300 dal quale si domina l’intera area delle Langhe albesi. Il nome dell’azienda rimanda all’altezza, appunto il “cucco” in dialetto locale, la sommità della collina dove si trova Vigna Cucco, il vigneto più antico.

Tenuta Cucco in Serralunga d’Alba, at the roots of the renowned XIV century castle that dominates the whole Langhe albesi area. The name recalls its altitude, “cucco” in local dialect, the summit of the hill in which Vigna Cucco, the most ancient vineyard, is located.

Oggi La Raia produce tre tipi di Gavi D.O.C.G. pluripremiati – Gavi, Gavi Riserva Vigna della Madonnina e Gavi Pisé –e due tipi di Piemonte D.O.C. Barbera. Per la cantina abbiamo scelto un’antica tecnica costruttiva naturale eco-sostenibile, quella del Pisé, che si armonizza con le dolci colline piemontesi che circondano La Raia.

Crop rotation was reintroduced with the recovery of ancient cultivations such as monococcum einkorn and rye. Finally, livestock pasture farming was reintroduced as well with cows of fassone race. The variety and richness of the vegetation within the estate make La Raia a true biodiversity oasis for bees and other pollinator insects: hence a copious production of acacia, multi-flower and woodland honey.

The tour ends with a tasting of three or five of our labels that takes place inside the cellar during wintertime and close to the estate’s lake in spring and summer time. Wines are served with local organic products and courses prepared by the best “taste artisans” of the area, using the raw materials produced at La Raia, such as the monococcum einkorn cultivated according to biodynamic principles.

Serralunga è considerata la più importante tra le zone delBarolo per la peculiarità dei prodotti enologici, tra i più longevi, per l’antichità dei suoi impianti e per il favorevole microclima dovuto all’altezza dei vigneti. In particolare, la Vigna Cucco, da cui proviene il Barolo Riserva, è una vigna simbolo di Serralunga, già riconosciuta nella Carta del Barolo di Renato Ratti.

Serralunga d’Alba is considered as the most important of the Barolo area for its wine-making peculiarities, among the most long-lived, for its antique instalments and the favourable microclimate given by the altitude of the vineyards. Particularly Vigna Cucco, where the Barolo Riserva originates from, is a symbolic vineyard in Serralunga, already recognised in Renato Ratti’s Carta Storica del Barolo (historical Barolo map). It is located in the subarea of Cerrati, a cru only offered to the market by our winery. Its peculiarity resides in the altitude of the vines, implanted approximately 400 metres above sea level, position where the typical limestone and tuff are highly concentrated on the surface of the soil, conferring the grapes with a distinct abundance of tannins and polyphenols.
