To help this network, PLANED has organised events such as a Web Seminar with Community Energy Scotland, a workshop on ‘Returns on Renewables’, and a visit to see wind turbines in action. It has also raised awareness of alternative energy issues through the Sustainable Agriculture Network.

network aims to help communities to develop the skills they need in order to design and implement practical projects that enhance the environment of the county, and which thereby improve quality of life and may extend the opportunities for sustainable tourism and recreation. These practical projects appear within Community Action Plans.

Hyrwyddir datblygiad cynaliadwy drwy waith PLANED gyda threftadaeth a thwristiaeth. Mae ein ffocws ar gynyddu mwynhad o Sir Benfro i bobl leol ac ymwelwyr. Y nod yw gwella treftadaeth ac amgylchedd y sir drwy fabwysiadu arferion amgylcheddol da, a diogelu a dehongli treftadaeth a bywyd gwyllt cyfoethog y sir.
Sustainable development is promoted through PLANED’s work with heritage and tourism. Our focus is on increasing the enjoyment of Pembrokeshire for both local people and visitors. The aim is to enhance the heritage and environment of the county by adopting good environmental practices, and by safeguarding and interpreting the rich heritage and wildlife of the county. PLANED has helped more than 50 communities to research and celebrate their heritage.

Iwan joins as PLANED celebrates 30 years of work in Pembrokeshire. PLANED supports communities to improve their quality of life by focusing on their opportunities, harnessing potential and helping them to achieve their aspirations. PLANED has four strategic areas of focus: community participation, representation and wellbeing, skills and entrepreneurship, sustainable agriculture and natural resources, and nature, heritage, culture and tourism.

Mae rhai o’r cymunedau ôl-ddiwydiannol yn rhannu llawer o nodweddion cyffredin fel ynysu, poblogaethau sy’n heneiddio, diffyg buddsoddiad gan y sector preifat sy’n gysylltiedig â’r “gwledig”. Beth yw “cymuned” yn y cyd-destun o waith sy’n seiliedig ar le?
We still struggle with some of the basic questions. What is “rural” in a Welsh context? Some of the post-industrial communities share many of the common characteristics of isolation, ageing populations, lack of private sector investment that are associated with the “rural”. What is “community” in the context of place based working? This has been discussed in WCVA’s recent discussion paper, “Resilient and Empowered Communities”. Then there is the perennial question, which many of these debates end up touching, what is the role of Town and Community Councils? This issue was debated in depth as long ago as 2003 in the Aberystwyth University report, “The Role, Functions and Future Potential of Community and Town Councils in Wales”.
