The work is critical in a number of ways; it foregrounds the problematics of site specific public interventions and brings forth question of audiences, especially the distant realities between shipped audiences and ‘accidental’ audiences, who in this instance also become ‘chance’ participants. Within the context of its creation as part of an art tour with a signed up audience, driven from site to site, Kukama critics the spaces between the audiences by bringing into question their disparate lived experiences.

Dabei interessiert ihn beispielsweise eine erfahrbare »Grundlosigkeit des Ausdrucks im Ausdruck«. Scheinbar belanglose Reste und Abfälle finden als Abdruck des eigentlichen Werks und als Spuren von Entscheidungen in einem künstlerischen Werkprozess eine erneute Aufwertung.

Benoît Maire develops his works in the spaces between art, philosophy, display and thought. In his paintings, sculptures, videos and installative arrangements, he seeks an experimental and practical pathway into fundamental theoretical propositions of aesthetics. With Maire, ideas find themselves translated in the form of pictures and objects. In his latest works, the artist devotes attention to, among other things, the art-historical motif of clouds, which reflects in the medium of painting itself and in his own artistic developments. In this process, he is interested in, for instance, a »groundlessness of expression in expression« capable of being experienced. What appear to be unimportant residues and rubbish gain a new currency as a mark of his actual work and as traces of the decisions made in a process of artistic creativity. Differing elements are embedded in installations, assume a deliberate relationship with one another and become equal parts of his artistic work as a whole. Benoît Maire is developing new paintings and sculptures for his exhibition at the Bielefelder Kunstverein and is including transformed site-specific objects into the presentation of his exhibition.

In »B-Alles« her subject matter is a Greek TV-commercial from the early 1980s which advertised trac-ball, an action racquet game that flopped commercially. The clip recalls a West coast ‘California-style’ beach atmosphere, complete with the usual carefree, fun-in-the-sun clichés. The staccato cuts and frenzied repetitions of images that are the result of an intensive re-editing process, coupled with the energetic, upbeat, accelerating tempo of the soundtrack aim to emphasize the tacky quality and amplified sense of exhilaration of the ad. Central to the work, in this respect, is Coltnoi’s musical manipulation of «California über Alles», the well known track by the seminal punk band The Dead Kennedys, which has replaced the footage’s original score. Editing and sound – in almost perfect synchronisation - work together to further underscore the naïve yet archetypal clichés that this mainstream form of advertising – a typology in itself - has come to propagate: the exaggerated atmosphere of euphoria and the myths of bodily perfection, health, youth, happiness, and beauty.
