Ar ôl blwyddyn o wirfoddoli, hyfforddi a mynd ar gyrsiau, a chyda chefnogaeth mentor cyfoedion oedd wedi bod mewn sefyllfa debyg, fe wnes i fagu hyder i ymgeisio am swydd broffesiynol am y tro cyntaf ers blynyddoedd.
Following a year of volunteering, training, and attending courses, and with the support of a peer mentor who had been through a similar situation, I gained the confidence to apply for a professional job for the first time in years.  I remember being very nervous, but thankfully — through the new skills I had learned and my new found self-belief — I was successful in my interview.

Pum mis yn ôl roeddwn i’n ddigartref ac yn byw mewn pabell. Fe wnes i glywed am Newid Cam am y tro cyntaf pan es i i’r ganolfan byd gwaith a gweld taflen yno. Er fy mod i’n amheus, penderfynais fynd i’r sesiwn galw heibio ym Mae Colwyn.
Five months ago I was homeless and living in a tent. I first heard about Change Stepw when I went to the job centre and saw a leaflet. Although I was sceptical I decided to go to the drop-in in Colwyn Bay.

From a very young age I wanted to be a soldier, all the male role models in my life including my father had served in the British Armed Forces. As soon as I turned sixteen I enlisted with the Armed Forces. Having served in Cyprus, Belize, Kenya and Northen Ireland I saw active service. Seeing this had a detrimental effect on my health and mental wellbeing.

“Os oedd gen i unrhyw broblem, roeddwn i’n gallu codi’r ffôn a siarad gyda fy mentor, Dave Nolan. Ar ôl ambell i fis roeddwn i’n teimlo dipyn gwell a chyn pen dim fe wnes i droi o fod yn gleient i fod yn fentor cyfoedion fy hun yn Wrecsam.
“If I had any problems I could just pick up the phone and speak to my peer mentor, Dave Nolan. After a good few months I felt considerably better and before too long I went from being a client to becoming a peer mentor myself in Wrexham. Today I have over 20 clients of my own. I also run a drop in session in Wrexham every Thursday and arrange volunteer days such as tidying up war graves as part of the Remember Our Heroes project.
