The report is one of the most in-depth examinations of Canadian S&T ever undertaken, and is the result of extensive work by a panel comprised of experts with diverse academic and industry backgrounds from Canada, the United States, and Europe. Their in-depth assessment of the state of science and technology focused on research performed in the higher education, not-for-profit, and government sectors and also considered the full range of disciplines in which research is conducted, including the humanities, arts, and social sciences. The assessment process examined improvements and declines in research fields over the past five years, provided insights regarding emerging areas of strength, and assessed provincial areas of specialization.
