This IRU Position addresses the conflicting situation that would result from the proposed EU Regulation on the law applicable to contractual obligations, including those concerning road transport. The proposal’s disregard for tried and tested transport legislation would drastically undermine a country’s interest in adhering to existing proven legal instruments. The IRU asks the EU not to create new rules. It is crucial to ensure that any new rules concerning the transport of passengers and goods by road are compatible with those laid down in the Rome Convention of 1980.
