Brooklyn in the summertime. Together with his family, shy teenager Jake moves into the house of his recently deceased grandfather. The lively Tony and his single mother, who runs a small sewing studio on the ground floor, live under the same roof. Jake and Tony soon realise they have a lot in common – computer games, art and girls. While the two boys forge their friendship, the adults around them enter an increasingly harsh conflict. With no money left, Jake’s parents have little choice but to dramatically increase the rent for the studio, which leaves Tony’s mother in despair. Taking the gentrification of New York as its backdrop, LITTLE MEN is dedicated to the friendship of two boys who are able to free themselves from the influences of the adult world.

Un été à Brooklyn. Jake, un adolescent timide, emménage avec sa famille dans la maison de son grand-père décédé. Tony, à l’esprit vif, habite au même endroit avec sa mère célibataire, qui tient un atelier de couture au rez-de-chaussée. Les deux jeunes que tout semble opposer remarquent rapidement qu’ils partagent les mêmes centres d’intérêts: jeux vidéo, art et filles. Mais tandis que les adolescents se lient d’amitié, les adultes entrent toujours plus en conflit: l’argent vient à manquer aux parents de Jake, qui se voient contraints d’augmenter le loyer de l’atelier, poussant la mère de Tony dans ses derniers retranchements. La classe et la modestie sont la marque de fabrique du réalisateur indie Ira Sachs. Sur fond de gentrification à New York, il se consacre, dans LITTLE MEN, à la forte amitié entre deux adolescents qui tentent de s’émanciper des influences du monde adulte.
