PAUL DRIESSEN – A famous world-renowned Dutch animator, whose career began in the late 1960s with his work on the famous Beatles’ film The Yellow Submarine (1968), which will be screened within Animafest's new programme Cinema for the Ear. In the early 1970s he immigrated to Canada, where he created a rich body of work under the auspices of the National Film Board of Canada. In 2002 Animafest presented Driessen with a lifetime achievement award, and this year it dedicated the Masters of Animation programme to him, therefore the Zagreb audience will get the opportunity to see the majority of his works.

Neven Petričić, born 1940, studied at the Faculty of Architecture in Zagreb. He is a freelancer, engaged in making animated films since 1968. As an animator and chief animator, often also a key animator, he has animated more than ten animated series and a number of animated films by the well know authors of the Zagreb Film School, including the Oscar winner Dušan Vukotić. He authored a series of art animated films, including Viva la Liberté (1971), The Fable (1980), The Secret of the High Rock (1989).

The most famous Croatian TV series for children, about an old inventor, was created by Croatian animator Zlatko Grgić at the Zagreb Film company. Between 1967 and 1974, 59 episodes were made. Zlatko Grgić (1931-1988), Boris Kolar (1933), Ante Zaninović (1934-2000) were some of the key figures of the famous Zagreb School of Animation. During the golden period of Zagreb Film animation studio in 1950s and 1960s, with huge international success, and later, they worked together or separately on TV series, and anthological animated films.

Vanja Hraste (Split, 1972) diplomirala je povijest filma na Filozofskom fakultetu Sveučilišta u Bologni s temom Zagrebačka škola crtanog filma. Od 2004. do 2007. radila je u organizaciji Svjetskog festivala animiranog filma – Animafest Zagreb.
Vanja Hraste (Split, 1972) graduated in film history at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Bologna, with a thesis on Zagreb Animation School. In 2004-2007 period she participated in the organisation of the World Festival of Animated Film Animafest Zagreb. She was a curator and selector of the 17th International Biennale of Drawing To the very last drawing at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rijeka (4 December 2008 – 17 February 2009), solo exhibition of Regina Pessoa A Tragic Story with a Happy Ending (January 2009) and Zagreb School of Animation (February 2009) at the Small Salon of the Rijeka Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. Since 2007 she has worked at the Croatian Film Clubs' Association. She is particularly active in organising educational programmes, international collaboration, film workshop coordination and national festivals of non-professional film, as well as Dr Ante Peterlić School of Media Culture. Since 2010 she has curated the Kratki utorak programme dedicated to short film at Tuškanac cinema.

The Montenegrin national community in Croatia and Skaner Studio d.o.o. from Zagreb prepared a monograph paying tribute to one of the founders and the first name of the Zagreb School of Animation, Dušan Vukotić. Texts that contribute to a better understanding of Dušan Vukotić’s work were written by Paul Wells, Jurica Starešinčić, Nedeljko Dragić, Ranko Munitić, Arsen Anton Ostojić, Rudi Aljinović, and it also includes Vukotić’s texts and a selection of professional reviews.

Hvalevrijedna suradnja zagrebačkog Muzeja suvremene umjetnosti i 'najzagrebačkijeg od svih zagrebačkih festivala', jednostavno nazvana Animation goes MSU, izazvala je veliku pažnju domaćih i stranih animatora te su se na sam natječaj za kreiranje sadržaja medijske fasade prijavila čak 52 rada iz 16 zemalja, što je fantastičan uspjeh i poticaj da se suradnja Animafesta i MSU-a nastavi u budućnosti.
The commendable collaboration between Zagreb’s Museum of Contemporary Art and “the most Zagreb-like of all of Zagreb’s festivals”, simply named Animation goes MSU, attracted great interest of both Croatian and international animators. As many as 52 works from 16 countries submitted their applications to the call for entries, which is a fantastic success and motivation to continue the collaboration between Animafest and MSU in the future. Among the submitted entries, 16 various animated gems were selected; from 29 May to 9 June they will grace this unique big screen. The selection was made by Animafest’s art director Daniel Šuljić and curator at MSU’s Collection of Film, Video, Photography and Media Art Leila Topić. The opening of these somewhat exotic screenings of 16 different national and international animated works is scheduled for 29 May at 7pm. The screenings will be available to passers-by until the closing of the festival, i.e. 9 June, from 7pm to 11pm.

Hewon the Best Animation Award at Animafest Zagreb and the Best German Short Film award with his short animation "Mein Bruder" (1985). With his adaptation of "The Three Robbers", Freitag proves Tomi Ungerer’s saying: "Kids do not need children’s books, they need well narrated stories".

Margit Antauer (1950, Zagreb) osnovnu školu, muzičku školu i gimnaziju pohađa u Varaždinu, a na zagrebačkom Filozofskom fakultetu studira engleski i njemački. Godine 1974. zapošljava se u Koncertnoj direkciji Zagreb kao producentica gdje i danas radi.
Margit Antauer (1950, Zagreb) took elementary and high school, as well as school of music, in Varaždin. At Zagreb’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences she graduated in English and German. In 1974 she began working for Zagreb Concert Management as a producer, where she has worked until this day. During 35 years of activity in Croatian culture, Buba (how her friends and colleagues call her) has collaborated with many important projects and festivals from Osijek to Dubrovnik, but also outside Croatia. From 1992 to 2006 she managed the events office at Zagreb Concert Management and acted as organisation director of the World Festival of Animated Film. She participated in selection committees and juries of many international animation festivals and won the annual award of ASIFA for her contribution to the development of animation art. In recent years she has worked on the production and organisation of music projects within the institution she works for.

Iznimno produktivni mladi umjetnik Dalibor Barić, dobitnik Oktavijana za najbolji eksperimentalni film na nedavno završenim Danima hrvatskog filma (Amnezijak na plaži), na fasadi MSU-a prikazat će zanimljivu animiranu igru tipografijom u radu John Durak was here. Tipografijom se zabavljala i studentica Odsjeka novih medija zagrebačke ALU Ana Vuzdarić u radu Sanjala sam.

Dalibor Barić, an extremely prolific young artist, the winner of Oktavijan Award for best experimental film at the recently closed Days of Croatian Film (Amnesiac on the Beach) will use MSU’s facade to show an interesting animated typography play in his work John Durak was here. Typography was also the inspiration of Ana Vuzdrić, a student at the Department of New Media of Zagreb’s Academy of Fine Arts, in her work Sanjala sam.

U klaustrofobičnom okolišu kartonske kutije koji nalikuje minijaturnom gradu iz dječje noćne more, ovaj film prikazuje totalitarno društvo čije sukobljene političke snage simboliziraju različite vrste limenki. Film je osvojio više od 20 nagrada, među kojima su i one iz Zagreba, Oberhausena, Clermont-Ferranda i Ottawe.
Set in a claustrophobic cardboard-box environment that suggests the miniature city of a child's nightmare, it portrays a totalitarian society whose clashing political forces are symbolized by different kinds of tin cans. The film won over 20 awards including those in Zagreb, Oberhausen, Clermont-Ferrand and Ottawa.
