De nombreux agents pathogènes et autres bactéries font naturellement et en permanence partie intégrante du milieu de vie des animaux et normalement, dans des conditions optimales, ils ne causent aucune maladie. Une crevette en bonne santé est capable, grâce à son système immunitaire, de maintenir ces agents pathogènes sous contrôle. Il se crée un équilibre, une symbiose entre l’hôte et les agents pathogènes. Les bactéries de l’intestin, par exemple, sont même des aides utiles à la digestion. Il s'agit, dans ce cas, de microorganismes non pathogènes (ne provoquant pas de maladie). Ce type de mode de vie, qui permet à deux organismes vivants de tirer l’un de l’autre certains avantages, est appelé « symbiose ». Si le stress vient perturber cet équilibre, le système immunitaire s’affaiblit, offrant une grande surface propice aux agressions de divers champignons et bactéries. Parmi les facteurs évidents de stress, qui donc jouent un rôle non négligeable dans la survenance de pathologies, il y a l’intoxication par l’ammoniaque, par les nitrates ou par la nitrite, les températures trop élevées ou trop basses, un mauvais pH, le manque d’oxygène ou la présence de substances toxiques dans l’eau. Des analyses appropriées peuvent être faites par votre animalerie habituelle ou vous pouvez les faire vous-même à l’aide des réactifs d’essai en vente dans le commerce. L’arme la plus puissante contre les maladies, c'est d'être vous-même très consciencieux. Bien que les crustacés maintenus en aquarium ou en aquaculture grandissent dans des conditions artificielles qui peuvent générer une plus grande propagation de germes pathogènes et une plus grande fréquence des pathologies, il vous est toutefois possible d’observer exactement ce qui se passe dans votre aquarium et de vous assurer que tout fonctionne bien. En même temps, vous pouvez voir exactement si vos animaux se portent bien ou non. Si vous supposez qu’ils sont éventuellement malades, adressez-vous immédiatement à un spécialiste en pathobiologie aquatique ou à votre animalerie, qui pourra prélever quelques échantillons d’eau.

Viele Krankheitserreger und Bakterien sind ein natürlicher und ständiger Bestandteil des Lebensraumes und verursachen im Normalfall, bei optimalen Bedingungen, keine Erkrankungen. Die gesunde Garnele ist in der Lage durch ihr Immunsystem, diese Krankheitserreger unter Kontrolle zu halten. Zwischen Wirt und Krankheitserregern besteht ein Gleichgewicht, eine Symbiose. Die Bakterien z. B. des Darms sind sogar nützliche Verdauungshilfen. Bei diesen Bakterien handelt es sich um apatogene (nicht krankheitserregend) Mikroorganismen. Eine solche Lebensweise zweier Lebewesen nennt man Symbiose, bei der beide Lebenspartner gewisse Vorteile voneinander haben. Wird dieses Gleichgewicht durch Stress gestört, wird das Immunsystem geschwächt und verschiedenen Bakterien und Pilzen eine große Angriffsfläche geboten. Eindeutige Faktoren, die Stress hervorrufen und somit in Verbindung mit Krankheitsausbrüchen eine nicht untergeordnete Rolle spielen, sind Ammoniak-, Nitrat- oder Nitritvergiftung, zu hohe oder zu niedrige Temperaturen, falscher pH-Wert, Sauerstoffmangel oder eine Giftstoffbelastung des Wassers. Solche Werte können von Ihrem Zoofachhändler vor Ort oder mit handelsüblichen Testreagenzien selbst analysiert werden. Die stärkste Waffe gegen Krankheiten ist also Ihre eigene Gewissenhaftigkeit. Obgleich Krebstiere in der aquaristischen oder der Aquakulturhaltung unter unnatürlichen Bedingungen aufwachsen, die eine stärkere Verbreitung von Krankheitskeimen und eine stärkere Krankheitshäufigkeit nach sich ziehen können, so können Sie dennoch das Geschehen in Ihrer Anlage genau beobachten und sich vergewissern, dass es gut funktioniert. Gleichzeitig können Sie auch genau sehen, ob Ihre Tiere in guter Verfassung sind oder nicht. Wenn Sie annehmen, dass Ihre Tiere eventuell erkrankt sind, dann wenden Sie sich bitte unverzüglich an einen Pathobiologen für Wassertiere oder an Ihren Zoofachhändler, der ein paar Wasserproben nehmen kann.
