Im Mittelpunkt steht dabei der Injektor, ein elektrisches Einspritzventil mit Düse. Der Injektor sitzt direkt im Zylinderkopf und spritzt das Benzin mit Hilfe einer Hochdruckpumpe mit einem Druck von bis zu 120 bar in den Brennraum.

At the heart of the system lies an injector which sits directly on the cylinder head and injects fuel directly into each combustion chamber with the help of a high-pressure pump at a pressure of up to 120 bar. This disperses the air/fuel mixture more precisely, increasing the mixing of air and fuel.

Puesto que debido a la inyección directa se reduce la temperatura en el cilindro, puede inyectarse más aire que hasta ahora en la cámara de combustión. Esto incrementa la densidad energética de la mezcla y permite, por tanto, reducir el consumo. Mediante el tiempo y la presión de inyección se puede gestionar con toda exactitud la cantidad de gasolina necesaria.
