IMB ensures that its scientists can work product­ively. A key part of the support we provide comes through our “core facilities” – central technology platforms and service units that offer modern instrumentation and expertise in genomics, proteomics and protein production, bioinformatics, cytometry, and microscopy. They allow our re­search groups to rapidly expand into new fields. This keeps our research groups competitive in fast-paced, dynamic environments. Our core facilities are also open to external users, providing starting points for collaborations.

Das Spektrum des Arbeitsprogramms dieser Max-Planck Forschungsgruppe reicht von der Untersuchung molekularer Mechanismen der Selbsterneuerung von Stammzellen über die Perspektiven der Forschung an embryonalen bzw. adulten Stammzellen bis hin zu Untersuchungen wie sich Stammzellen an eine für sie nicht gewebstypische Umgebung anpassen. Die Forschungsgruppe wird integraler Bestandteil des vom Land Baden-Württemberg für die Universität Ulm ausgewiesenen Schwerpunkts "Stammzellbiologie/Zyto-Organo-Poese" (d.h. Zell- und Organbildung).
The Max-Planck society aims at collaborations between its institutes and adjacent universities or related institutes. The establishment of fixed-time, interdisciplinary Max-Planck Research Groups at universities further strengthens the required networking between universities and institutes of the Max-Planck Society. The Max-Planck research group on stem cell aging is located at the institute of molecular medicine at the University of Ulm and is supervised by Prof. Dr. med. Karl L. Rudolph. The group works on multiple topics ranging from the investigation of molecular mechanisms for stem cell self-renewal to research perspectives on embryonic or adult stem cells, through to investigations on how stem cells adapt to an ectopic tissue environment. The Research Group will be an integral part of the research focus ‘regenerative cell and organ therapy’ established by the state of Baden-Württemberg for the University of Ulm.
