The Church of St. John the Evangelist is situated not far from St. Hypatius Monastery. Once, this was a kind of special economic zone (settlers were exempt from a number of taxes) created to attract people who would "feed" the monks. It had belonged to the Monastery since the 15th century. When, in the mid-17th century, monasteries were prohibited from owning villages, the monks managed to find a way around this prohibition by pointing out that the village was separated from the Monastery by a river (in fact, it was merely a pathetic creek, now hidden inside a pipe).
