Switzerland is teeming with forests (35% of its surface area), lakes (some 1500) and mountains (25% of its surface area). Given this terrain, it is not surprising that most of the really exciting action happens underground. Switzerland has some 900 tunnels, turning its underworld into a stony block of Emmental cheese. Besides road and rail traffic, many tunnels were built to carry water and electricity. Switzerland currently has the longest tunnel in the world. La Suisse étant recouverte de forêts (35% de son territoire), de lacs (plus de 1500) et de montagnes (25%), sons sous-sol regorge de trésors naturels parfois inattendus. La Suisse compte par ailleurs 900 tunnels, ce qui lui vaut parfois d’être comparée à une meule de fromage. Ces tunnels n’abritent pas uniquement des voies de communication routière et ferroviaire, mais ils servent également à l’approvisionnement en eau et en énergie. En ce moment, le plus long tunnel du monde est en construction en Suisse. Die ganze Schweiz ist geprägt von Wäldern (35% der Fläche), Seen (rund 1500) und Bergen (25%) und gerade wegen der hügeligen und oftmals schroffen Landschaft spielt sich viel im Untergrund ab. 900 Tunnels gibt es in der Schweiz. Die Schweiz ist durchlöchert wie ein Emmentaler Käse. Nicht nur Strassen- und Bahnverkehr wühlen sich durch die Erde. Viele Tunnels sind entstanden, um die Strom- oder Wasserversorgung sicher zu stellen. Zurzeit entsteht in der Schweiz der längste Tunnel der Welt. La Svizzera è piena di buchi, esattamente come il formaggio svizzero Emmental. Sotto terra non sono state scavate solo strade e ferrovie. Molte gallerie sono state create per garantire energia elettrica e fornitura idrica. Ma non è finita qui. Il più lungo tunnel del mondo è attualmente in costruzione in Svizzera.
