The European Commission (EC) is leading the works on a multi-purpose centre in Mitrovicë/Mitrovica supported by Kosovo institutions and the municipality. The EC Liaison Office will be managing the construction of a new sports centre, refurbishing the sports centre 'Minatori', as well as landscaping the city's central park. Training of teacherswill be also provided. In addition Kosovo Government and the Municipality will co-finance the construction of a new commercial centre worth EUR 8.5 million.

Speech of Mr. Popovski: Dear Mr. Minister, distinguished representatives of the media. First let me express my particular satisfaction for the opportunity to realize this meeting, as well as meetings following talks, which are part of the friendly relations between the two countries. I think with the access that have both our countries, we can make a positive contribution in the region. We share the same interests and commitments to, and I think that Albania will support us without reservation on the path to NATO membership. Regarding the EU consider that both countries have the opportunity to achieve a step further. Macedonia is awaiting the receipt of the date for starting EU membership negotiations, and also we wish the Republic of Albania to achieve success in this regard. The chance to benefit from European funds by the two countries represents a unique opportunity. We talked about the possibility of a wider cooperation. The fight against the organized crime and human trafficking is one of these areas. In this context the creation of a contact center between the two ministries of foreign affairs is a step forward. An important segment is also that of economic cooperation between two countries, the realization of projects that we mentioned can be of mutual interest and we, together, are committed to take steps in order to coordinate and promote this cooperation at all levels. In this context, is to be assessed the decision of the Albanian Parliament to abolish all customs barriers, all customs duties. In this regard, a step forward is the connection infrastructure, road and rail link between the two countries. By the Republic of Macedonia have been taken several decisions which give a further boost in this regard. This cooperation can be strengthened only through the field of energy and we commit to this project be accomplished within a time much faster. Another important issue is to open the border crossings between Republic of Albania and Macedonia. This may argue with the opportunity to bring the citizens of the two countries.Another bridge of the cooperation between two countries is the Macedonian community in Albania and the Albanian community in Macedonia. Will exploit this potential in all dimensions especially in the Macedonian.
