, a mythical text that established his name as a writer. The 1950s produced new authors such as Manuel de Pedrolo (1918-1990), a representative of the theatre of the absurd, along with Joan Brossa (1919-1998), a constant experimenter in the field of theatre with his staged poetry, and Maria Aurèlia Capmany (1918-1991). 1959 was the year of the discovery of the actor Joan Capri (1917-2000), who for decades was the icon of Catalan popular theatre.

Capmany —que no era del seu curs sinó quatre o cinc anys més jove però van ser molt amics— citaven molt sovint una dita de Nicolau de Cusa que deia: «El nostre objectiu és viure intel·lectualment de la manera més intensa possible».

My theory is that Espriu, who was the number one and he knew it, not only wanted to continue being a lecturer at the University, but also he admired Bosch i Gimpera, and he would have like to be rector. He considered the University a modus vivendi. He and his close friend Maria Aurèlia Capmany —who was four or five years younger than he— usually quoted Nicolau de Cusa who affirm. “Our aim is to live in the most intellectually possible way”. And, is there any better place than the University to live in an intellectually way? Being a university lecturer is one of the most intellectual jobs than a person can have. In this sense, he wanted to continue being a university lecturer and a writer probably too. The fact of not being able to continue his university life completely affected him; university was his leitmotif.
