“Even today, gas is an environmentally responsible and flexible alternative to coal and diesel. Sustainable gas, for example, can be based on organic material from agriculture or surplus power from wind turbines. Promising technologies are available for the production of fuel based on gas, and an efficient gas network is already in place, so the potential for reducing greenhouse gas emission is considerable,” says Associate Professor Lars Ditlev Mørck Ottosen, Department of Engineering, Aarhus University.

Transportsektoren står for næsten en tredjedel af den samlede drivhusgasudledning i EU. Da drivhusgasudledningen skal nedbringes ifølge Kyotoaftalen, er det påkrævet at udvikle og indføre alternative løsninger, særligt inden for vejtransport.

Transport is the source of nearly a third of the European Union’s total greenhouse gas emissions. Their reduction, particularly in the context of the Kyoto Protocol, requires research and the introduction of alternative solutions, specifically in the road transport sector. The Union has thus defined a policy to promote biofuels and the reduction of emissions in road and air transport. Shipping also presents the problem of marine pollution. The Union intervenes to limit pollution caused by vessels, as well as to penalise malicious conduct.

Fokuserer man på det bidrag til reduktionen, der skyldes grøn omstilling, indtager Danmark en fjerdeplads ud af analysens 11 lande bag ved Storbritannien, Sverige og Holland. Dette bidrag måler evnen til at reducere drivhusgasudledningen i forhold til BNP – altså den indsats der gør, at vi kan producere mere uden at udlede flere drivhusgasser.

If one focuses on the contribution to this reduction which is made by the green transition, Denmark ranks in fourth place out of the analysis of 11 countries behind the United Kingdom, Sweden and the Netherlands. This contribution measures the ability to reduce greenhouse gas emissions relative to GDP, a measurement which assesses the action required to allow us to produce more without emitting additional greenhouse gases.
