UNAT is competent to hear and pass judgment on appeals from judgments of the UNDT and the Dispute Tribunal of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), decisions taken by the Standing Committee acting on behalf of the UNJSPB and decisions taken by the heads of those agencies and entities that have accepted jurisdiction of the UNAT, which currently include the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the International Seabed Authority (ISA) and the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS).

محكمة الأمم المتحدة للاستئناف (محكمة الاستئناف) هيئة قضائية استئنافية أنشأتها الجمعية العامة للنظر في طلبات الاستئناف المقدمة بشأن الأحكام الصادرة عن محكمة الأمم المتحدة للمنازعات. وتتولى المحكمة أيضا النظر والحكم في الطعون المقدمة في القرارات التي تتخذها اللجنة الدائمة التي تعمل باسم مجلس الصندوق المشترك للمعاشات التقاعدية للموظفين، والقرارات التي تتخذها الوكالات والكيانات التي قبلت بالولاية القضائية لمحكمة الأمم المتحدة للاستئناف (للاطلاع على أسماء الوكالات والهيئات انظر ”الولاية القضائية“). وتتكون محكمة الاستئناف من سبعة قضاة ينظرون في طلبات الطعن عادة في أفرقة مكونة من ثلاثة أعضاء. والأحكام التي يصدرونها نهائية قطعية وملزمة للأطراف.
