وبينما يركز المجتمع الدولي على مخزون الأسلحة الكيميائية، فإن إسرائيل ليست أقل تركيزاً على الأسلحة الاستراتيجية الأخرى التي لدى النظام وفرة منها، بما في ذلك رادارات، وصواريخ أرض- أرض، وقذائف، وصواريخ أرض- جو وأرض- بحر متطورة. ومن الواضح أن الهجوم الجوي التي شنته إسرائيل في سوريا في ليلة 29-30 كانون الثاني/يناير كان يستهدف على ما يبدو مقاومة تلك التهديدات -- ووفقاً لبعض التقارير الإعلامية، استهدفت العملية قافلة تحمل أسلحة إلى «حزب الله» في لبنان. لقد التزمت الحكومة الإسرائيلية الصمت حول الحادث، ويُرجح أن الغرض من ذلك هو أن ألا يشعر المستهدفون بالاضطرار إلى الرد بعنف. وربما تحتاج إسرائيل أيضاً إلى شن هجمات أخرى في المستقبل.
