The case under consideration relates to the 9 August 2011 events, when the youth was assaulted by the police, beaten and taken to a police station right amidst long-awaited official talks between the authorities of Armenia and the oppositional ANC on the democratic transition of the country. The actions of the police are widely believed to be politically motivated and they effectively led to the halting of the dialogue between the government and the opposition.
