What matters is not whether the Internet is a better or worse technology than others (who knows?), but rather that it is in the hands of many doing many more things than the market would allow under other circumstances and even more than the the big corporations would like them to do as they attempt to consolidate the wave of neoliberal capitalism. It is not clear, for example, that bartering, one of the essential mechanisms for the creation and exchange of information and knowledge in the Net, is one of the means favoured by capitalism.

La qüestió és què representa aquest accés a la informació i què se’n pot fer. Si la única informació que pot arribar és la que la televisió proporciona en el format actual, aleshres no hi ha remei. Continuem en l’àmbit de la Societat Industrial. Informació administrada des de dalt per poders constituïts sòlidament i sense cap possiblitat d’interactuar entre emissors i receptors. Aquí no hi ha ni revolució ni res que s’hi assebmli. Ni tansols innovació tecnològica, a la qual sembla que mols hi adscriuen uns valors terapèutics socials misteriosos. La innovació tecnològica no és la que promou el canvi social, sinó l’ús que la gent fa de la tecnologia. I perquè això passi s’ha de tractar de tecnologies amb certes particularitats, com passa amb Internet. En cas contrari, ens trobem davant innovacions tecnològiques que s’imposen per altres raons, bàsicament de pressió comercial. I si el canvi social s’ha de lligar només al funcionament del mercat, aleshores millor que plegeum i ens dediquem a una altra cosa.
