目前，业界主流应用的光猫一般提供基于802.11n标准的2×2 MIMO WiFi接口，空口最大速率可支持300Mb/s，实际以太网吞吐率大约在140Mb/s左右。基于802.11n标准的3×3 MIMO WiFi产品可达到450Mb/s空口速率，但由于价格比较昂贵，实际并没有发展起来。802.11ac作为新一代WiFi标准，是继802.11n之后主流的WiFi技术。其工作在5GHz频段，最高支持8×8 MIMO，理论空口速率高达6.9Gb/s。相对于802.11n的2.4GHz频段，802.11ac设备工作的5GHz和2.4GHz双频频段具有可选信道数量更多、抗干扰能力更强、速率更高和时延更小等诸多优势，能更好地承载高清视频等高速无线业务。
