Dancing on the Edge is hét festival voor hedendaagse podiumkunst uit het Midden-Oosten en Noord-Afrika. Het festival laat een ander geluid horen uit de regio en toont origineel, fris en urgent eigentijds theater, dans en installaties. Met ook een dansroute, (na)gesprekken, Museumnachtprogrammering, masterclasses, muziek en lekker eten.  “Een onmisbaar platform voor internationale uitwisseling en reflectie” aldus dagblad Trouw. De Brakke Grond is het centrum van het festival.

On Thursday 12 May a conference will be held in La Bellone on the topic of Iran’s contemporary theatre scene. Six researchers and well-known artists from Iran sketch an unpublished, hybrid image of the reality of the theatre scene in their home country.

The development of theatre in the twentieth century can be seen as a transition from 'dramatic' theatre to 'postdramatic' theatre. Whereas current research mainly emphasises the physicality of postdrama, this project aims to explore the consequences on the way text is handled in contemporary theatre practice.

De ontwikkeling van het theater in de twintigste eeuw laat zich vatten als overgang van het 'dramatische' theater naar het 'postdramatische' theater. Terwijl de literatuur hieromtrent vooral aandacht heeft voor de lichamelijkheid van het postdrama, wil dit project de consequenties nagaan voor de theatrale omgang met tekst vandaag. Focus van dit 'practice based'-onderzoek is het tijdsverloop eigen aan actuele postdramatische narratieven.

"The situation in India is awkward for contemporary theatre and dance. The public shows a great demand for contemporary work, but there are not many performance possibilities. There are economic as well as historical reasons for this. Money is insufficient as yet for investing in cultural infrastructure. Things are getting better, but doing so slowly. Historically, dance has been a prominent art form for centuries. Bharata natyam and the kathak are only the best known of many traditions. During the British occupation, circumstances in India were difficult for traditional dance. Now it is experiencing a period of enormous blossoming and, in part thanks to the success of Bollywood, it has become an export product. As a result, there is much less attention for contemporary dance theatre from India."

I worked for the Parade, Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam, the Flamenco Biennial and theatre company De Hollanders. Despite the flying start, I began missing studying (for real), and started my masters programme Contemporary Theatre, Dance and Dramaturgy in Utrecht.

Hoi, ik ben Doris! Na mijn studie Theaterwetenschap aan de UvA liep ik stage bij het ITs Festival en Orkater, waarna ik mijn eigen bedrijfje startte in PR voor theater en festivals. Ik werkte voor o.a. de Parade (waar ik eerder ook o.a. drie jaar lang mijn eigen voorstelling speelde en snoepmeisje was), Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam, de Flamenco Biënnale en De Hollanders. Toch begon ik het studeren te missen (ja echt), en ben ik in 2017 de master Contemporary Theatre, Dance and Dramaturgy in Utrecht begonnen, waar deze Fringe Academy als stage deel van uitmaakt. Zó tof om binnen de Fringe-familie onze eigen Vrije Uitloop te mogen creëren!
