Function: Planning boards provide advice and assistance on matters referred by the councils to which they submit their estimates under the act (s.12) and by the minister (in the case of a board appointed for a planning area that consists wholly or partially of territory without a municipal organization). The boards prepare official plans for these areas, and, at councils' request, for municipalities. In addition to the general functions described above, the board administers site-specific zoning orders. In addition to consent granting for the entire planning area, it has been delegated subdivision, validations, foreclosures and powers of sale authority for the municipalities within its jurisdication.

Mandat: Le Conseil d'aménagement fournit conseils et aide en ce qui concerne les questions relatives à la zone d'aménagement qui lui sont adressées par le conseil municipal, auquel il présente ses estimations en vertu de l'article 12, ou par le ministre (dans le cas d'un conseil d'aménagement créé pour une zone comprenant la totalité ou une partie d'un territoire non constitué en municipalité). Le Conseil d'aménagement prépare un plan officiel susceptible d'être adopté pour la zone d'aménagement ou la municipalité, à la demande du conseil municipal. En plus des fonctions générales décrites ci-dessus, le conseil administre des ordonnances de zonage relatives à des emplacements précis. En plus de l'avoir chargé des autorisations dans tout son secteur d'aménagement, on a délégué au conseil l'autorité en matière de lotissement, de validation et de forclusion ainsi que le pouvoir de vendre des terres dans sa région d'aménagement.
