C’est deux fois la superficie moyenne qui était brûlée au début des années 1970, et divers scénarios de modélisation prévoient que la superficie sera encore multipliée par deux ou plus d’ici la fin du siècle, en raison du réchauffement attendu du climat. Cette amplification des feux aura de lourdes conséquences sur les écosystèmes forestiers, l’exploitation des forêts, la protection des collectivités et le bilan de carbone.
