Denis has 25 years of experience in Product Lifecycle Management, 10 of which were acquired working for Dassault Systèmes, and then for PEA Consulting (Consulting branch of the Areva Group), where he was director of the PLM Business Line. He is now partner for Mews Partners. He has written “PLM, la gestion collaborative du cycle de vie des produits” (PLM, Collaborative Product Lifecycle Management), and he is vice-president of the PLM Lab. After many years of practising so-called high-tech engineering, I am now using my skills to bring appropriate technology to those who desperately need it. I now often face colleagues’ accusations of becoming “low tech.” But my response is always the same. We need to choose technology that uses locally available materials, cultural and social criteria; that empowers women and children; and that encourages self-sufficiency along with minor economic stimulus.  This involves using every tool and skill learned in a lifetime.  We are using participatory research, involving those who matter most in this project: the members of the local slum community. By working right in the community, our amazing team of colleagues, students and sponsors can make a difference.

Nous devons choisir une technologie qui repose sur les matériaux et les critères culturels et sociaux locaux, une technologie qui habilite les femmes et les enfants et encourage l’autosuffisance en leur donnant un petit coup de pouce. Il s’agit d’utiliser toutes les compétences et tous les outils acquis au cours d’une vie. Nous appliquons un processus de recherche auquel participent ceux que ce projet concerne en premier : les habitants du bidonville. En travaillant directement avec la collectivité, notre extraordinaire équipe de collègues, d’étudiants et de commanditaires peut faire une différence.
