ils ne doivent pas estimer la distance qui les sépare d'un signal de brume en se fondant sur la puissance du son. Dans certaines conditions atmosphériques, le son cesse parfois d'être audible à une très faible distance de la station, et ces conditions peuvent varier en un très court laps de temps.
