No, because I realized at an early age through the teachings I had from a grandmother and a bunch of aunts and uncles that loved me that I can be anything I want to be. But it's got to be in me. So that's the message that we need to pass on to our young kids. It's not about what they see on TV, and some of that needs to be clipped in the wing, but it's about who they are and what they need to be. L'identité, la communauté et la force intérieure semblent toutes interreliées. Ce n'est pas les autres qui nous donnent une identité ou qui nous l'enlèvent, même s'il est vrai que les gens que nous côtoyons l'influencent et lui donnent forme. Il s'agit plutôt d'une chose que chaque personne porte en soi, et qui est admise par ceux et celles qui partagent cette même identité. On accole une étiquette très péjorative aux Autochtones et aux Noirs, mais ce qui peut nous donner de la force, c'est l'étiquette que nous nous accolons sur nous-mêmes.
