Over the past months, a number of suggestions have come from users on how to improve data.gc.ca, many of which have culminated in new features and functionality available on the new data.gc.ca. Our thanks to all of you, who have provided us with valuable feedback and suggestions on the original data.gc.ca pilot site, but we are still not done. There is much more to do. Moving forward, we will be continually working to enhance the data and features available here on data.gc.ca, so tell us what you think, and tell us what we’ve missed. Use our feedback page to give us your thoughts and ideas. We will also cultivate every opportunity to share our experiences with other jurisdictions, and leverage all the lessons we can learn from others.

20. Modeling & Forecasting Tools/Systems (7439) - The Economic Analysis Directorate has the mandate to conduct socio-economic research and economic analyses, develop forecasts and models and, to collect and manage transportation data. The funding that was approved in September 2010 was to expand the modeling capacity of Transport Canada to include passengers and freight in all modes of transportation. Currently, the capacity only exists for passenger transportation in Aviation. To date, the project has successfully produced four papers covering the forecasts for coal, cereal grains, wood, and potash. These commodities represent a significant component of the goods flowing through the Pacific Gateway. Moving forward, we will begin a consolidation of all four papers (Coal, Grain, Potash, and Wood) to provide an analysis of the impacts of these exports on the transportation system. Of note, we will also aim to begin the integration of this work with our existing capacity on the aviation sector and revisit in the process some of the existing models on hand. The purpose of linking this work back to the aviation function is consistent with the Project Approval Document which sought to "expand the modeling capacity of Transport Canada to include passengers and freight in all modes of transportation".

19. Indicateur de fluidité et de coût total de la logistique (7438) – Création d’un indicateur national de fluidité et de coût total de la logistique. Ces indicateurs aident les décideurs (publics et privés) à comprendre l’efficacité (temps et coûts) du réseau de transport canadien entre des paires de villes aux fins d’élaboration de politiques et d’optimisation des possibilités d’affaires quotidiennes. Chaque indicateur est lié à un algorithme sur lequel reposent tous les calculs relatifs aux valeurs de l’indicateur. Ces indicateurs sont hypothétiques et constituent le point de départ pour des recherches visant à élaborer des versions permanentes pour le marché du transport au Canada. À ce titre, ce projet comporte un volet important de R et D associé à la validation de ces algorithmes, de leurs hypothèses, leurs contributions et leur approche mécanique pour évaluer le secteur au Canada.
