In my former life I was a real estate broker and dealt sometimes with religious organizations that don't deal with banks. They obviously deal in cash transactions--Amish and other groups that don't believe in our banking system.

Lorsque j'étais courtier immobilier, je m'occupais parfois d'organismes religieux qui ne font pas affaire avec les banques. Ils effectuent évidemment leurs transactions en argent comptant. Je pense aux Amish et à d'autres groupes qui ne croient pas à la validité de notre système bancaire. Il arrivait parfois, lorsque j'essayais de faire un dépôt en tant que courtier immobilier, que la banque n'accepte pas une certaine somme en argent comptant sans un affidavit. Les groupes entrant dans la catégorie des organismes religieux, qui font toutes leurs affaires en argent comptant ou les gens que je connais qui gardent un bas de laine et qui ne passent pas par les banques vont-ils nécessairement faire l'objet d'une enquête?

When I process my pictures, I organize them chronologically, not thematically. When I study my archives, I always discover pictures of my ex and of my former life. I’ve always wondered what to do with these pictures.

C’est ainsi que j’ai réalisé On Love and Other Landscapes, en travaillant en parallèle sur un format et un concept né d’un questionnement sur la représentation du mur. Construit par les Israéliens, ce mur représente donc pour moi le coté israélien, non palestinien. Je voulais donc faire un travail sur le paysage qui parle du mur sans jamais le montrer. Ca me permettait d’interroger la notion de représentation. J’ai donc inventé une histoire d’amour avec une femme imaginaire qui m’a quitté au moment ou je la raconte. C’est un récit d’amour et de voyage. Les deux épisodes se croisent continuellement dans un questionnement de la mémoire et de la représentation. Une relation accentuée par le recours unique au paysage comme illustration. Je raconte une rupture et une histoire dans laquelle on ne garde pas de traces visuelles de quelque chose ou de quelqu’un dont on espère qu’il disparaitra un jour, comme pour s’en libérer dans le présent.

Throughout my transition, I was extremely fortunate to have the support of my family, and most importantly, my partner Gary Marcuse. A profoundly sane individual, he wouldn’t let me hide my uncertainty or sadness at the loss of my former life, but challenged me to address them.

Tout au long de ma transition, j'ai été terriblement chanceuse d'avoir le soutien de ma famille et, plus particulièrement, de mon partenaire Gary Marcuse. Profondément sain, il ne permettait pas que je cache mon incertitude et ma tristesse devant la perte de ma vie antérieure, mais il me mettait au défi d'y faire face. Puis il y avait le CRTD qui m'a donné du support quand j'en avais besoin. J'étais déjà représentante à Vancouver – un poste que j'ai conservé pendant 20 ans – et j'ai continué à participer en tant que membre du Conseil.
