Dès 1972, la NASA lançait le premier satellite multispectral de la mission Landsat. Depuis, la place de la télédétection dans l’exploration minière, et plus largement les géosciences, n’a cessé de croître. L’arrivée en 1999 du satellite multispectral ASTER, toujours de la NASA, marque une étape disruptive, puisqu’elle amène la télécartographie prédictive à un niveau de précision bien supérieur, autant sous l’angle de la variété de minéraux cartographiés que sous celui de la résolution spatiale.
