DNA release from transgenic plants: The transgenic DNA increased in the soil whilst the beets were growing and decreased again at the end of the vegetation period. Presumably the plant material disperses in the environment first, and the transgenic DNA is not released into the soil until later.

DNA-Austritt aus transgenen Pflanzen: Die transgene DNA nahm im Boden während des Anbaus der Rüben zu und fiel zum Ende der Vegetationsperiode wieder ab. Vermutlich breitet sich zunächst das Pflanzenmaterial in der Umgebung aus und die transgene DNA wird erst später daraus in den Boden entlassen. Die Rodung von Zuckerrüben hinterlässt deutlich weniger transgene DNA im Boden als Pollenaustrag.

The new software brings numerous advantages both for transportation companies and for the environment. “First, CO2 emissions can be efficiently reduced because unnecessary trips and empty miles can be minimized. Second, both fuel use and transportation times will drop, and these are money-saving factors for companies,” says Di Ciccio. Long term, the GET Service project is expected to lower fuel use in transportation by 2.3 million liters of diesel fuel while lowering CO2 emissions by a total of 6.5 million tons.

Eine thematisch ähnliche Arbeit hat Yin Xiuzhen in dem geografisch und kulturell völlig anderen Erfahrungsraum Peking gezeigt. Die Künstlerin kreierte 1998 in der ehemaligen DDR-Botschaft die Site-Specific-Art-Installation „Visumsabteilung“. Nach der Wiedervereinigung Deutschlands wurde die ehemalige DDR-Botschaft zur Visumsabteilung der neuen Deutschen Botschaft umfunktioniert. Yin Xiuzhen lernte die Räumlichkeiten zunächst als Antragstellerin kennen und entschied sich für ein Projekt, bevor das Gebäude teilweise abgerissen und umgebaut wurde. Xiuzhen nutzte die nach intakte Einrichtung der Visumsabteilung und häufte große Mengen trockenen Zementpulvers auf alle Anlagen und machte sie damit verfrüht zu einer verlassenen Ruine. Die Beschaffenheit des benutzten Materials unterstrich den Bedeutungsgehalt der Installation – im trockenen Zustand ist Zement weich und kraftlos wie Staub, in Verbindung mit Wasser wird er hart und fest wie Stein. Das Zementpulver überdeckte die historischen Spuren des Sozialismus und überstäubte gleichzeitig eventuelle Anzeichen des wachsenden Kapitalismus.

Earlier projects about compressed air energy storage revealed two elements that need further development: The heat exchanger in the working chambers and the motor/generator (motgen). The BOP-B is in fact a high efficient compressor or air motor. But it can only work efficiently if the compression or expansion of the air takes place in a mostly isothermal way. Therefore heat exchangers have to be placed in the working chambers for a good heat exchange to the environment. First tests revealed that the chosen heat exchanger fulfils the thermal expectations. But there are some strange effects around that liquid piston system, which need further development of the test infrastructure. Therefore a further project is launched for finding out more. For a possible application of the BOP-B as a storage in small stand alone systems, in a second part a high efficient motor/generator (motgen) should be developed. The goal was set to 90% efficiency (including power electronics) in one direction at a rated voltage of 24VDC and 1500W input power. The chosen approach of a ironless machine was not successful. The elimination of the iron losses was abolished by other losses (aerodynamic and eddy losses in copper). Nevertheless substantial perceptions could be gained. As a by product of the actual motgen development a reliable 70A EC-motor control and an unconventional torque measurement equipment were developed. They proved to be very useful for testing the prototypes.

Frühere Arbeiten zum Thema Energiespeicherung mit Druckluft haben gezeigt, dass im Wesentlichen zwei Baugruppen des Wandlers BOP-B einer näheren Untersuchung bedürfen: Der Wärmetauscher in den Arbeitsräumen sowie der Motor/Generator (Motgen). Beim BOP-B handelt es sich im Prinzip um einen hocheffizienten Kompressor bzw. Druckluftmotor. Dieser kann aber nur dann effizient arbeiten, wenn die Kompression und Expansion der Luft weitgehend isotherm erfolgen. Deshalb sind in den Arbeitsräumen Wärmetauscher zu integrieren, welche in Verbindung mit Flüssigkolben den erforderlichen Wärmetransport gewährleisten. Erste Versuche haben gezeigt, dass die gewählten Wärmetauscher thermisch den Anforderungen genügen. Es hat sich aber auch gezeigt, dass es im Umfeld des Flüssigkolbens noch einige unerwartete Effekte gibt, welche eine Weiterentwicklung der Versuchsanordnung erfordern. In einem Zusatzauftrag werden diese Effekte näher untersucht. Als zweiter Teil des Projektes sollte im Hinblick auf eine mögliche Anwendung des BOP-B Speichers in autonomen Stromversorgungen ein Motor/Generator (Motgen) mit möglichst über 90% Wirkungsgrad (inkl. Elektronik) für eine 24V / 1500W-Anlage entwickelt werden kann. Der gewählte Ansatz einer eisenlosen Maschine brachte leider nicht den gewünschten Erfolg. Die Eliminierung der Eisenverlusten wurde durch andere Verluste (Luft und Wirbelströme im Kupfer) wieder aufgehoben. Dennoch konnten wesentliche Erkenntnisse gewonnen werden. Als Nebenprodukte der Motgen-Entwicklung entstanden eine praxistaugliche EC-Motorelektronik für bis zu 70A Dauer-Ausgangsstrom sowie eine unkonventionelle Drehmoment-Messeinrichtung, welche sich beim Ausmessen der Prototypen sehr gut bewährt hat.
