Ziheng Yang is R.A. Fisher Professor of Statistical Genetics at University College London. He received a Ph.D. in agronomy in 1992 from Beijing Agricultural University. He then did a few postdocs in the UK (Cambridge and the Natural History Museum, London) and the USA (Penn State and UC Berkeley), before joining UCL as a lecturer in 1997. He was promoted to Professor in 2001. He develops statistical methods and writes computer programs in the fields of molecular evolution, population genetics, and computational biology. He maintains a software package called PAML and published a book titled Computational Molecular Evolution (2006, OUP). According to Lab Times (2008/03), he was the top-cited evolutionary biologist in the UK and ranked #3 in Europe. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 2006.
