Herein, friends, a brother might say: ‘Lo! I have developed mental emancipation by love, I have multiplied it, made it a vehicle, and a base. I have brought it out, accumulated and set it well going. Nevertheless malevolence persistently possesses
my heart
.’ To him it should be said: ‘Not so! Say not so, your reverence! Do not misrepresent the Exalted One! It is not well to calumniate the Exalted One! Surely he would not say this was so! This is a baseless and uncalled-for statement, friend. Things cannot be as you say. Emancipation of the heart through love, brother, this is how you become delivered from malevolence. In the same way a brother might wrongly complain that after cultivating emancipation of the heart through pity, he was still possessed by cruelty, or that after cultivating emancipation of the heart through sympathetic joy, or through equanimity, he was still possessed by disgust, and passion respectively. Next, friends, a brother might say: ‘Lo! I have developed mental emancipation from the power of any object to catch the fancy and incite lust, I have multiplied that emancipation, made it a vehicle and a base I have brought it out, accumulated and set it well going. Nevertheless my mind still pursues seductive objects. Or again he may say: ‘Lo! The notion “I am” is offensive to me! I pay no heed to the notion “This ‘I’ exists!”

१५-छै विवाद-मूल—(१)यहॉ आवुसो । भिक्षु क्रोधी, उपनाही (=पाखडी) होता है, जो वह आवुसो । भिक्षु क्रोधी उपनाही होता है, वह शास्तामे भी अगौरव=अप्रतिश्रय हो विहरता है, धर्ममे भी ०, संघमे भी ०, शिक्षा (=भिक्षु-नियम) को भी पूरा करनेवाला नही होता है । आवुसो । जो वह भिक्षु शास्तामे भी अगौरव ० होता है, वह संघमे विवाद उतपन्न करता है, जो विवाद कि बहुत लोगोके अहितके लिये=बहुजन-असुखके लिये, देव-मनुष्योके अनर्थ, अहित, दुखके लिये होता है । आवुसो । यदि तुम इस प्रकारके विवाद-मूलको अपनेमे या बाहर देखना, (तो) वहॉ आवुसो । तुम उस दुष्ट विवाद-मूलक नाशके लिये प्रयत्न करना । यदि आवुसो । तुम इस प्रकारके विवाद-मूलको अपनेमे या बाहर न देखना, तो तुम उस दुष्ट विवाद-मूलके भविष्यमे न उत्पन्न होने देनेके लिये उपाय करना । इस प्रकार इस दुष्ट (=पापक) विवाद-मूलका प्रहाण होता है, इस प्रकार इस दुष्ट विवाद-मूलकी भविष्यमे उत्पति नही होती । (२) और फिर आवुसो । भिक्षु मर्षी (=अमरखी) पलासी (=निष्ठुर), होता है । (३) ईष्यालु, मत्सरी होता है ० । (४) ० शठ, मायावी होता है ० । (५) ० पापेच्छु, मिथ्यादृष्टि होता है ० (६) ० सदृष्टि-परामर्शी (=तुरन्त चाहनेवाला), आधान-ग्राही (=हठी), दुप्रति-निस्सर्गी (=मुश्किल से छोळनेवाला) होता है ० ।
