“भिक्षुओ! तीन के एकत्रित होने से गर्भ धारण होता है—माता और पिता एकत्र होते हैं, किंतु माता ऋतुमती नहीं होती और गंधर्व उपस्थित नहीं होता; तो गर्भ-धारण नहीं होता। माता-पिता एकत्र होते है, माता ऋतुमती होती है; किन्तु, गंधर्व उपस्थित नहीं होता , तो भी गर्भ-धारण नहीं होता। जब माता-पिता एकत्र होते है, माता ऋतुमती होती है, और गंधर्व उपस्थित होता है; इस प्रकार तीनों के एकत्रित होने से गर्भ-धारण होता है। तब उस गरू-भार-वाले गर्भ को बडे संशय के साथ माता कोख में नौ या दस मास धारण करती है। फिर उस गरू मार वाले गर्भ को बडे संशय के साथ माता नौ या दस मास के बाद जनती है। तब उस जात (= सन्तान) को भिक्षुओ! माता अपने ही लोहित से पोसती है। भिक्षुओ! आर्यों के मत में यह लोहित (= खून) ही है, जो कि यह माता का दूध है।
