एक दिन संत गरीबदास जी (गाँव-छुड़ानी, जिला-झज्जर वाले) किसी कार्यवश घोड़े पर सवार होकर जींद जिले में किसी गाँव में जा रहे थे। मार्ग में गाँव मालखेड़ी (जिला जींद) के खेत थे। उन खेतों में से घोड़े पर बैठकर जा रहे थे। गेहूँ की फसल खेतों में खड़ी थी। घोड़ा रास्ता छोड़कर गेहूँ की फसल के बीचों-बीच चलने लगा। खेतों में फसल के रखवाले थे। वे लाठी-डण्डे लेकर दौड़े और संत गरीबदास जी को मारने लगे कि तेरा दिमाग खराब हो गया है क्या? हमारी फसल का नाश करा दिया। घोड़े को सीधा नहीं चला सकता। ज्यों ही उन्होंने संत गरीबदास जी को लाठी मारने की कोशिश की तो उनके हाथ ऊपर को ही जाम हो गए। सब अपनी-अपनी जगह पत्थर की मूर्ति के समान खड़े हो गए। पाँच मिनट तक उसी प्रकार रहे। फिर संत गरीबदास जी ने अपना हाथ आशीर्वाद देने की स्थिति में किया तो उनकी स्तंभता टूट गई और सब पीठ के बल गिरे। लाठियाँ हाथ से छूट गई। ऐसे हो गए जैसे अधरंग हो गया हो। रखवालों को समझते देर नहीं लगी कि यह सामान्य व्यक्ति नहीं है। सबने रोते हुए क्षमा याचना की। तब संत गरीबदास जी ने कहा कि भले पुरूषो! क्या राह चलते व्यक्ति के साथ ऐसा व्यवहार करते हैं। मारने को दौड़े हो। पहले तो यह जानना चाहिए था कि किस कारण से घोड़ा फसल के बीच में ले गए हो? वे किसान बोले, अब बताईये जी, घोड़ा किस कारण से फसल में चला गया था? संत गरीबदास जी ने पूछा कि इस खेत में इस फसल से पहले क्या बीज रखा था। उन्होंने बताया कि ज्वार बोई थी। उससे पहले क्या बोया था? उन्होंने बताया कि तम्बाकू बीजा था। संत गरीबदास जी ने बताया कि उस तम्बाकू की बदबू अभी तक इस खेत में उठ रही है। उसकी बदबू से परेशान होकर मेरा घोड़ा रास्ता त्यागकर दूर से जाने लगा। उस तम्बाकू को आप पीते हो, आप तो पशुओं से भी गये-गुजरे हो। सुन लो ध्यान से! इस के बाद इस गाँव में कोई व्यक्ति हुक्का नहीं पीएगा, तम्बाकू सेवन नहीं करेगा। यदि आज्ञा का पालन नहीं हुआ तो गाँव को बहुत हानि हो जाएगी। उस समय तो सबने हाँ कर दी। संत के चले जाने के पश्चात् बोले कि भर ले न हुकटी! जब होकटी (छोटा हुक्का) भरने लगे तो हाथ से चिलम छूटकर फूट गई। दूसरी होकटी की चिलम लाए, वह भी हाथ में ही चूर-चूर हो गई। खेत में जितनी होक्की थी, सब टूट गई। चिलम भी फूट गई। रखवाले डर गए कि उस संत की लीला है। गाँव गए तो गाँव के सब हुक्के टूट गए, चिलम फूट गई। पूरे गाँव में हड़कंप मच गया। भय का वातावरण हो गया। रखवाले गाँव में आए तो कारण का पता चला। उस दिन के पश्चात् गाँव में वर्तमान तक हुक्का (तम्बाकू सेवन) कोई नहीं पीता। गाँव का नाम है ‘‘मालखेड़ी’’।
