Poco dopo meno di un chilometro, passando affianco ad un muro di pietre, troverete sulla destra il cancello del La Foresteria di Serego Alighieri che porta all'interno di una via alberata di cipressi.

Le mura di cinta con merli e la cappella tardo gotica proteggono e decorano la struttura ancora oggi. Il grande portone rappresenta ancora lo stemma della famiglia Payrsberg con la data 1560. Il tratto più vecchio del castello oggi non è in buone condizioni, mentre le ampliazioni che sono avvenute nel XVI secolo, come anche la torre, sono ancora in un buono stato. Oggi Castel Bavaro appartiene alla famiglia Malpaga e non è accessibile al pubblico - viene utilizzato come appartamento ed edificio di servizio per la vicina azienda agricola. Il castello è raggiungibile da Nalles in una camminata di un’ora (segnavia nr. 9).

Dal parcheggio dell’Albergo Ponticello iniziamo a camminare entrando nell’ampia valle laterale verso destra (segnavia N. 4). Percorriamo in piano per circa 1 km la forestale valle addentro, traversiamo il greto del rio (in genere a secco) e saliamo per un primo tratto ripido. Qui la strada si snoda verso ovest portando, dapprima piuttosto in piano e poi salendo in svariate serpentine, alla Malga Cavallo (Rossalm). Passiamo oltre la malga e continuiamo il cammino lungo l’avvallamento in direzione nordovest, portandoci alla piatta insellatura (Campo Latino) a sinistra del Giavo Piccolo. Da qui già possiamo vedere bene il Giavo Grande. Proseguiamo la marcia su alpeggi in piano e campo aperto in direzione nordovest, portandoci ai piedi della cima. Gli ultimi 120 m di dislivello che ci separano dalla vetta sono nuovamente un po’ ripidi e si superano meglio compiendo un ampio giro verso sinistra. Dalla sommità del monte possiamo ammirare uno splendido panorama a 360° e in particolare il lago di Braies che giace molto più in basso ai nostri piedi.
