MODS (Metadata Object Description Schema) is a metadata standard developed by the Library of Congress. MODS is based on an XML schema designed to describe bibliographic data. The MODS models can be used as templates to deliver the metadata accompanying electronic publications to the NL.

Dal punto di vista della struttura interna, Munuscriptorium è basato su uno schema xml, la cui parte principale è costituita dal formato europeo MASTER (Manuscript Access through Standards for Electronic Records) per la descrizione elettronica di manoscritti basata sul TEI (Text Encoding Iniziative). Il corpo principale dei dati è reso disponibile tramite i dispositivi di archiviazione digitale messi a punto da AiP Beroun Ltd della Repubblica Ceca. Il progetto ENRICH integrerà anche ulteriori dati provenienti da biblioteche digitali remote. I metadati per il database centralizzato saranno preferibilmente raccolti per mezzo del protocollo OAI e conterranno i links alle immagini depositate in banche dati remote. Le necessarie operazioni di trasformazione e integrazioine dei dati saranno create e messe a punto per ciascun partner. Saranno anche sviluppati tools on-line specializzati per rendere la struttura di Manoscriptorium compatibile con quei partners che possiedono dati digitali da rendere disponibili, ma che non hanno adeguati trattamenti dei relativi metadati.
