サヴィルの仕事には、ふたりに共通した不満が反映された。90年代初期の不況に加えて個人的な財政難にも直面していたサヴィルは、世界の経済構造に疑問を持ち、その視点からファッション業界を微妙に批判した。メンズ キャンペーンは、印象的なストック画像を雑誌やアート関連の書籍から選んだまったく無関係なビジュアル イメージと組合わせた。ファッション以外のイメージといい、遠回しな出来合いのコピーといい、全体の批判的なスタンスといい、当時の他のキャンペーンとは異なる型破りなキャンペーンだった。アーティストのココ・キャピタン(Coco Capitán)がGucciのために制作した2017年キャンペーンには、これと大いに共通するところがある。ニューヨークとミラノの人通りが多い区域で、建物の無地の壁全体に、それとなく心に訴える文章を大雑把にペンキで手書きし、Gucciのロゴを添えたキャンペーンである。サヴィルの挑発は因習を打破する耀司の強固な姿勢に後押しされていたが、近年のGucciのキャンペーンは、一体何に誘発されて登場したのだろう。単に、大手のファッション ブランドがこの種の反プログラミングを採り入れるのに、ほぼ30年を要したということだろうか。
