構造改革特区を活用した葡萄栽培やワインを担保とした借り入れなど、先駆的な取り組みで注目を集める。三代目の有賀雄二社長は、「ワインの質は原料の葡萄で決まる。ワイナリーが自分で葡萄を栽培できないのはおかしい」と公言してきた。2003年、ワイナリーが葡萄畑を借りて自ら葡萄を栽培できるようにする「ワイン産業振興特区」の認定を山梨県が受けたのを機に、同社は約１ヘクタールの農地で自ら葡萄栽培を始めた。日本固有の「甲州」種にこだわりながらも、生食用の余りものの葡萄を使ってきた従来のワイン作りに強い疑問を持ち、ワインにとって最高の葡萄を自らの手で作り「甲州で世界の人を驚かせたい」と意気込む。果汁を凍結させて成分を凝縮するといった技術面での努力を重ねる一方資金調達面でも工夫を見せる。2005年7月には、ワインが熟成する間の運転資金として、銀行からワインを担保に2000万円の融資を受けた他、一般市民からも一口100万円で預託金を集め、利息として小売価格7万円分のワインを提供するという、個人投資家向けの資金調達にも乗り出した。2003年のフランスの国際ワインコンテストでの銀賞受賞を弾みに、世界品質を目指した取り組みは続く。
