本章では，炭素循環と地球温暖化問題をテーマとするアウトリーチコミュニケーションの構築・実践事例を紹介している． この事例は，ゲーミングと科学技術コミュニケーションを融合しており，ネットワーク上の擬似的な地球環境における参加者の行為とその結果との関係性から， 相互に連関した要素の連鎖の視点を通して地球温暖化問題を捉えることを狙いとしている． このことで，持続可能な経済活動や地球環境の維持を実現するための制度・行動・方法の選択肢を考えるための空間を提供する． 遠隔地に居住する多様なローカルナレッジを有する参加者が，容易にアウトリーチコミュニケーションに参加するためには， インターネット環境に接続されたコンピュータネットワークが不可欠である． アウトリーチコミュニケーションのために構築される擬似的な公共圏ともいえるネットワーク空間は， 多くの市民が自身の生活に深い影響を与える問題に対し，主体的にかかわりを持つことを支援するために有効である．
