Being influenced by the flow, temperature, and topography of estuarine areas and the sea floor, river water gradually mixes with seawater and flows out to sea. Accurate estimation of the river water mixing and diffusion is important in estimating the behavior of chemical substances in bays and their contribution to biological production.

これまで、私たちは主に岩手県から宮城県にかけての沖合海底付近において、生物と環境の現状と変動をとらえること、巨大津波によって海に流出した瓦礫等が海洋の生態系に与える影響を評価することなどを通じ、科学的視点による漁業復興への貢献に取り組んできました。そして、これからはこれまで取得したデータや新たに取得するデータを基に、三陸沿岸から沖合にかけて生物や環境の現状や変動を生態系モデルによって「見える化」し、巨大地震・津波後の持続的な漁業や海域利用をもたらす復興に貢献するための科学的知見を提供します。
