When NetBeans first appeared, I tried it, but only once as it was so slow on my box that it was unusable. This has however changed in recent times and I have tried it again, only to abandon it as it was often an overkill for small teaching level programming projects.

NetBeans がはじめて登場したとき、試してみましたが、1 回だけでした。私のハードウェアではあまりに遅くて使い物にならなかったからです。しかし、最近変わったので、また試してみましたが、小さな教育レベルのプログラミングにはしばしば過剰すぎたため、結局やめてしまいました。Eclipse も試してみましたが、同じ理由でやめました。これらのもっと最近の作業は、先述のとおり、ほとんど Borland の IDE を使っていた同僚と学生に、私自身を合わせるために、Emacs から移行する更新作業でした。さらに、これらの IDE が現在提供するようになった追加機能にアクセスしたかったことも認めざるを得ません。

In recent times, expectations of a new kind of knowledge from data mining these kinds of data collected during actual medical treatment have arisen.

医療の現場では、電子カルテ、診療報酬明細書（以下レセプト）、疾患登録（がん、肝炎等）、使用成績調査、その他検査結果など、患者や治療に関するデータが蓄積されています。膨大なデータが各医療機関や国の機関、保険会社、製薬会社などで保管されていますが、これまで我が国では研究へ利用される事はあまりありませんでした。しかし近年、これらの実診療下のデータを活用することにより、様々な年齢層や複数の疾患に罹患した患者に対する薬の影響や、診療科や医師の違いによる薬剤の処方の違いなど、医療現場で実際に薬がどう働くかについて、患者や投薬条件を限定した治験段階とは異なる新しい知見が得られることが期待されています。 欧米・アジア（台湾や韓国）では、既に上記の大規模な医療情報DBが医薬品の評価や安全性の監視、疫学研究に利用されていますが、我が国ではようやく構築が進み、利活用され始めました。今後は、これまで実施が困難だった全国レベルでの医療現場の実際の診療を加味した医薬品の評価や疫学研究等へ、これらのDBの利活用が促進されることが期待されています。
