情報産業は、近年スマートフォンやタブレット端末を中心に技術革新が進み、その市場規模は、全産業の約1割、百兆円と、自動車などの輸送機械や家電などの電気機器を抜いて、今や日本の主要産業の中で最大の産業となっている。更に、その成長率も他の産業を超えて日本の経済を引っ張っている中核の産業だ。インターネット電話スカイプの創業者が、昨年の講演で「日本では、工場型の大企業には関心が低く、ベンチャー中心のIT産業に関心を持っている」と語ったが、企業のグローバル展開の中で、日本の産業構造が世界の中で如何に変化しつつあるかを明白に示した発言だ。スマートフォンの基本ソフトのOSは、アンドロイドで代表されるようにバージョンアップが多く、ソフト開発には基本ソフトから応用ソフトまでの多様な知識が要求される。本学は、計算機に関わるすべての分野の教育を行っているので、常にこのような社会のニーズに対応できる人材を輩出しており、その人材に注目して本学を訪問する企業も多い。
