酸化物や金属(合金)などのナノ結晶を高温高圧の水中で合成し、その機能(物性)を物性物理・材料科学の視点から精査しています。 このようなナノ結晶は、触媒、顔料、医療用材料など応用上も非常に重要な材料ですが、その基礎的な物性は意外と調べられていないことが多いのです。例えば、結晶サイズや表出表面が異なると物性が変化したり、表面制御により結晶構造や電子状態もコントロールできることなど、注目すべき現象が最近になって明らかになってきましたが、そのメカニズムはよくわかっていません。最近注目しているのは「有機-無機ハイブリッドナノ結晶」です。有機-無機ハイブリッドナノ材料は、有機分子が有する柔軟性や加工性に加え無機物質の機能を付与できます。しかし、無機ナノ結晶表面と有機分子との界面での反応について議論が十分ではありません。もし、界面での相互作用や反応メカニズムが解明できれば、様々な機能性ハイブリッドナノ材料の創製だけでなく、有機と無機の界面における新たな機能の発現も期待できます。
