격년으로 치러지는 ‘마니페스타’의 총괄자로 비엔날레와 관련된 모든 양상들의 전체적 발전과 시행에 대한 최종 책임을 맡고 있습니다. 도시 선정과 큐레이터 선임뿐 아니라 큐레이터가 구상한 전시 콘셉트를 최상의 방법으로 실현할 수 있도록 지원하는 것도 포함되겠습니다. 매회 행사를 치르기 전에 그해의 비엔날레가 어떤 개념적 전략을 구사해야 하는지에 관한 큰 그림을 그리고, 어떤 특정한 주제를 다룰 것인지를 고려합니다. 또 그것을 위해 어떤 이력을 가진 큐레이터가 가장 적합한지를 살핍니다. 특히 도시 선택은 ‘마니페스타’를 통해 문화가 어떻게 사회의 변화에 따라 새로운 비전을 제시하는가를 결정하는 사항이기에 중요한 문제로 볼 수 있습니다. 저의 역할은 기획이나 실행 면에서 비엔날레가 정확하게 이행되고 있는가에 대한 것이며, 경제적 상태와 이론적 기반, 즉 “각각의 ‘마니페스타’는 올바른 질문을 던지고 있는가?”를 점검하는 역할을 맡는 것입니다.
