He died on
3 November 1875 and was buried at Omanaia by a Wesleyan minister, William Rowse. He was survived by Kikihu and Heene Whakarongohau. The photograph taken at his tangi shows him as a man with fine features and delicate bones, and with a moko on his cheeks and chin.
