I guess that need is very tangible in the context of contemporary art production. Today, when we are asked to perform it is usually quite clear what this invitation implies – to put it cynically: an event needs to be created and content has to be provided, because there is a cultural institution or presentation format that needs to be filled with content. And so cultural producers become content providers. We generate the fuel to keep the machine running. What for? What other philosophies of performing could we think of? To stop performing altogether is maybe not really an option, because then we would deprive ourselves of the joy of performing. JV Es decir, definiríais estas necesidades históricas con relación a inquietudes contemporáneas, como la necesidad de crear espacios de posibilidades y buscar formas alternativas de comunicación en un momento en que la comunicación se ha convertido en una actividad económica. Supongo que esa necesidad es muy tangible en el contexto de la producción artística contemporánea. Hoy en día, cuando se nos invita a intervenir, suele estar bastante claro lo que implica esa invitación, por decirlo cínicamente: hay que crear un evento para el que es necesario crear contenido, porque hay una institución cultural o un formato de presentación que necesita dotarse de contenido. Esta lógica convierte a los productores culturales en proveedores de contenido. Generamos el combustible que hace funcionar la máquina. ¿Para qué? ¿Qué otras filosofías de performance se os ocurren? Quizá la opción no sea dejar de hacer performances por completo, porque entonces nos privaríamos del placer que nos procura.
